I wasn’t sure I was going to do the blog this time around but it makes the most sense. Mike left yesterday to travel to the Salt Flats and made it to Monroe, LA, last night. He has longtime friend Louis McRae along for the ride. So far the truck has performed very well.
For those who don’t know, Mike is driving the same 2005 Ford diesel truck as usual. Friend Tommy Bell of Bell Automotive and Diesel in Camden, SC, has helped babysit the truck for many years. When going to Bonneville you don’t just buy a truck and go. Once the salt gets ahold to a vehicle it is definitely not new anymore. When I get there with the crew we will have to park at the gas station just off the highway and Mike or Louis will come out to meet us to ride in as the rental car company won’t rent to you for driving on the salt.
I will try to fill you in on a number of different topics as we go along this week. The car we will be running this year is a new creation. We decided not to bring the streamliner. The salt, in the years we have been able to go, has not been very conducive to a vehicle of that caliber. We have opted for this new car to have more fun. I will include a photo when Mike says I can.
Thanks for coming along with us on our adventure!
